България се присъединява към страните-членки на Европейския съюз през 2007 г. Страната не е член на Шенгенското пространство, официалната валута е Български лев (BGN), фиксиран към eврото при курс 1.95583. 

България се присъединява към Световната търговска организация в края на 1996 г. Член на НАТО е от април 2004 г. България е една от основателките на Организацията за черноморско икономическо сътрудничество и Организацията за сигурност и сътрудничество в Европа. Част е също така от ООН и  Съвета на Европа.
