ЕП прие план за корпоративното данъчно облагане в ЕС, чиято задача е да бъде установен единен корпоративен данъчен режим за Съюза. Новият план предвижда и изграждането на хармонизирана данъчна система, използваща онлайн дейността на компаниите за изчисляване на задълженията им. 

Евродепутатите гласуваха с 438 гласа „за“, 145 гласа „против“ и 69 гласа „въздържал се“ създаване на обща консолидирана основа за облагане с корпоративен данък в ЕС. Мярката, коята регламентира единни правила за определяне на печалбата на компаниите, подлежаща на облагане, ще наложи на големите мултинационални компании да спазват общ набор от изисквания при пресмятане на печалбите си във всеки един от клоновете си, без да имат възможност да се възползват от несъответствията между националните данъчни системи, за да намаляват данъчните си задължения. 

ЕП гласува и предложение, според което дигиталното присъствие на дадена фирма в държава членка ще е фактор за определяне на облагаемите ѝ печалби. Целта отново е компаниите да плащат данъци там, където реализират печалбата си. В тази връзка евродепутатите искат ЕК да установи определени прагове (като броя посетители или обема на създаденото дигитално съдържание), на база на които да се изгражда по-ясна представа къде компаниите генерират приходите си. 

Другият основен елемент в предложението на Европепейската комисия е консолидиране на печалбата, което позволява на мултинационалните корпорации да съберат печалбите и загубите от дейността на различните си подразделения в ЕС и да получат общата сума, която подлежи на облагане. Крайният данък ще бъде разпределян между държавите членки, в зависимост от това къде са изкарани печалбите. Целта е да бъде прекратена съществуващата практика на компании, които местят данъчната си база в юрисдикции с ниско облагане.
